2017 Road Trip - Day 1 St. Louis to Council Bluffs, IA

DAY 1 - MILE 0

Day 1 was a straight road day, with little stopping to take in the sights, we tried to make ground to our first real destination. First stop Crane’s Country Store Williamsburg, MO. This little country store had just about everything you could ever possibly want to buy in relatively small space. They self proclaim selling "Boots, Bullets, Britches, and Bologna" in addition to those things, they have a hardware store, a few guns, and I believe they even sold antiques.  Back on the interstate we saw quite a bit of  western and northern Missouri that we had yet to experience, but we headed on to Iowa.

Further down the road we stopped in Hamburg, and clicked Iowa off the list of states we have never visited. Hamburg is a quaint little town with a town square and one little gas station on the other side of town from the interstate. . . thank goodness they were able to hold it!! Not too long after leaving Hamburg we made it to Council Bluffs. We promised a pool, so the the kids jumped out of the car, into their swim suits and ran to the pool to burn off some energy. After quick bite we went to “Ted & Wally’s” Homemade Ice Cream across the Missouri River in Omaha, NE. (2nd new state in the same day). Omaha was hopping, with a couple of street festivals in town. We made our way around the fun towards Ted & Wally’s. The board was packed with some unusual flavors (Epicurean Durian, Chinese 5-Spice, Brown Sugar Grape Nuts, Gingerbrew Sorbet). We tried out Vanilla Bean, Cantaloupe, Chinese 5-Spice, Caliente Chocolate, Caramel Cake Mix, and Almond Joy. I sampled the Durian and not sure it would have been possible to keep down a full scoop without tasting it the next two weeks. Off to bed to rest of up for another day tomorrow.

HAPPY TRAILS!!
